Trading Systems FAQ

What is a trading system?

A trading system is a tool used by traders that uses objective entry and exit criteria based on parameters that have been determined by historical testing on quantifiable data. SRB Capital Management provides an array of systems trading solutions through highly-vetted service partners.

Why should I invest in a trading system?

Investing in the futures markets via a trading system provides the discipline to overcome fear and greed that in many cases paralyzes clients from making their own timely trading decisions. Each order is governed by a pre-determined set of rules that primarily, do not deviate beyond anything other than time or price action.

What should I consider?

Like all kinds of investment tools, trading systems if not used properly, can be dangerous to your economic health. As a potential investor you should evaluate tolerance to high-risk futures trading, risk capital, leverage and the ability to withstand equity draw downs.

How do I know if the system is any good?

One of the key elements of a trading system is the ability for a trading system to hold up over time. We encourage clients to take their time and study results before they open a trading account. The only true test of a system is to see how it performs in actual trading where market slippage and trading cost are a part of the record.

How much money do I need?

The minimum deposit to open a futures trading account varies by broker and system traded.  In addition, you should only consider opening a futures account and investing in a systems trader if you have sufficient risk capital, due to the inherent leverage of futures trading. Your broker will discuss  funding options with you depending on your preferences and suitability.

How do I get started?

The first step is to contact our systems specialist, Herb Kral at SRB Capital or another SRB associate in order to understand the risks as well as the rewards of futures trading using futures trading systems.  If you are comfortable with the program, the next step is opening a trading account and selecting the trading system(s) that best fits your personal risk tolerance and investment objectives.  If you are not comfortable in operating the selected trading system, it can be “auto-traded” in your account for your benefit. There are added expenses to having another party execute system trades on your behalf, so make sure you discuss and fully understand all the issues with your broker.

What are the Risks?

Any one system may be subject to market specific, system specific, or complex specific risk. By trading multiple systems across different markets, one may reduce market specific and complex specific risk. By trading systems with different entry and exit strategies, the trader may reduce system specific risk. However, the risk of trading can be substantial and each investor and/or trader must consider whether this is a suitable investment. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results.

THERE ARE UNIQUE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH UTILIZING INTERNET-BASED ORDER EXECUTION TRADING SYSTEMS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE FAILURE OF HARDWARE, SOFTWARE AND INTERNET CONNECTION. SRB CAPITAL MANAGEMENT DOES NOT CONTROL SIGNAL POWER, ITS RECEPTION OR ROUTING VIA INTERNET, CONFIGURATION OF YOUR EQUIPMENT OR RELIABILITY OF ITS CONNECTION. SRB CAPITAL MANAGEMENT IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR COMMUNICATION FAILURES, DISTORTIONS OR DELAYS WHEN TRADING VIA THE INTERNET.
